Contrast

Everything is in contrast to something.

Light-dark, high-low, happy-sad, full-empty, big-small, complex-simple; you know the rest. Is it true that everything in life has it’s own opposite? This is sort of epic, when you think about it. That you are only able to notice the difference between two things because of the contrast between them. The vast spectrum of light, shape, experience, mood, people, animals, personalities, morals, scale, weather, pattern, curiosities, talents and places; all give us the perspective and comparison to the rest.

Everything is relative.

A bright red apple looks pretty darn bright until you hold it next to a red Skittle. You think you’re average sized until you walk into the locker room. Or you might feel you’ve seen the best sunset in the whole World, until the next one comes around.

If there was no contrast, we would have no context of anything. Nothing to reference to or compare. Every single moment in life is simply a comparison to another.

Suddenly life looks so simple. Or complex; depends on that old perspective of yours…

I guess this is the whole Yin-Yang philosophy. Absolute balance of all things. Each and every having its own polar opposite and everything in between. Nether existing without the other.

And the contrast helps you appriciate the relation of your self in the spectrum.
