Response to Eden
I really liked “rhetoric is pushed upon other people.” You could totally have used that and gotten away with it.
Because I’m an idiot, it took me a few seconds to parse “I always revert back to the thought of the incubation period. Rhetoric is the heater that incubates the eggs. Without the heater, the eggs wouldn’t hatch and the outcome would be kind of sucky.” Then I realized that’s exactly right, at least for me. Everything I do gets incubated because everything I do sucks until it’s foreign enough to not seem like my idea anymore. Eventually, I’ll figure out the right words — maybe after reading other writers, maybe after watching a film. Always after it doesn’t sound like me anymore. This also overlaps with Gabriel’s idea about constructed persona. Rhetoric is everything I’m not.
