As we reflect on James 1:12–15, we are reminded of the reward that comes from enduring trials and temptations. The passage reads:

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” (ESV)

In these verses, James tells us that those who remain steadfast under trial will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. He also reminds us that God does not tempt us with evil, but rather it is our own desires that lead us into temptation.

This message is a powerful reminder for all of us to keep our focus on God and resist the temptation to sin. It can be easy to become discouraged or frustrated when faced with trials and temptations, but James reminds us that there is a reward for those who endure and remain faithful to God.

Reflection Question:

  • Do we turn to God for strength and guidance in times of trial and temptation, or do we try to handle it on our own?

May we seek to remain steadfast in our faith and trust in God, knowing that he has promised to reward those who love him. Amen.
