I would like to know why one should choose Angular2 to learn as a new framework over React.

As you mention, it is a complete overhaul of Angular. So if someone is already facing a learning curve (which doesn't seem any easier than React’s), why not go with what seems to be the one on top right now, and instead take a chance on Angular again?
