In a workplace that’s majority women, where we would think smiling expectations could relax, could the lack of a smiling face have consequences even then? What happens when a woman among mostly women chooses to give up smiling for the sake of it? Could she be judged by other women as being too negative? Can this affect relationships and inclusivity in the workplace? I would argue yes — if you’re perceived as a “Crabby Gabby” among shiny happy people, you feel that pressure to conform.
