Big Time Studios has assembled a crack team led by CEO Ari Meilich — a pioneer in the NFT space and founder of Decentraland.org, one of the first big projects in the NFT space launching in 2017 and raising USD26m in its ICO that year. Meilich is joined by Thor Alexander, CPO — a veteran of the social gaming giant Zynga, Alexander is a pioneer of MMOs and social games and counts amongst his achievements scaling Zynga’s playerbase to 20m DAUs; and Matt Tonks, CTO — who has previously worked on blockbuster triple-A titles including Fortnite, and both the Gears of War and Medal of Honour franchises. The rest of the talent at Big Time Studios is no less impressive, with credits in some of the most beloved, award-winning titles in recent memory including God of War, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Command & Conquer. Working completely remotely around the world; this talented, triple-A calibre studio is primed to bring an engaging, premium gameplay experience to the GameFi landscape with Big Time.

Style & Substance
Big Time sports a stylised sci-fi aesthetic characterised by dramatic lighting and strong colour palettes: pinpricks of light twinkle in the distance as you wander through amber grass, the sky behind you a shock of sea-dark night, and heroes pop onto the screen with bright eye-catching outfits (and cosmetics — but we’ll get to those later!). The clean, polychromatic visuals provide a stunning backdrop to the intense action and varied gameplay. Combat takes the primary form of a fast-paced Action RPG, with gameplay similar to the visceral, third-person combo-oriented gameplay loop of the celebrated God of War series. Take control of the powerful Time Warrior, the magical Chronomancer, the stealthy Shadowblade, and the protective Quantum Fixer; all on the same character! With Big Time’s Timelines system, you never need create an alt again — players will be able to level up a single character and switch between and into alternative classes on the fly.
A Whole Universe — and all of Time — to Explore
In your travels through the worlds of Big Time, you may come across loot of all kinds — equipment to make you more powerful, mounts to traverse spacetime, or pets to keep you company. A critical part of the economics that underlies the game will be the fact that the studio is trying to make sure the underlying crypto technology and plumbing that keeps the game exciting will be all but invisible to most players. The devs have made it a clear priority that they are trying to build a fun multiplayer ARPG that just happens to have great tokenomics under the hood, letting an average player accrue real-world value perhaps without even realising it in a tantalising value proposition. NFTs representing in-game loot will only be cosmetic items, exchangeable should the player choose for crypto or fiat currency; whereas items with in-game benefits and advantages will be non-tradable and non-saleable.
The team at Big Time Studios is working hard on creating a focused, exciting gameplay experience with flexibility to cater to different playstyles — from highly social players who want to spend time with guildmates and perfect their hero’s outfit, to dungeon-grinders who want to work with their team of friends to perfect their runs, to the solo explorer looking for an immersive, colourful open world to wander around discovering secrets. Big Time promises three distinct but interrelated game modes: the first will be a large open world where players will be able to explore, meet other players, and show off the loot they have gathered, the second will be a delve through procedurally generated dungeons in teams of up to six players, and the third will be a massive social space in the form of Epoch City.
To-date, Big Time has already attracted over 350k members on their Discord server, and over 178k followers on Twitter. The hype — as they say — is truly real, and who can blame the fans when what we’ve seen so far promises to be a real game-changer in the Play-to-Earn/GameFi space.
