Persistence

108 years later, the Cubs won the World Series. 108 years ago? Yes, their last World Series win was in 1908 against the Detroit Tigers.

Persistence: “firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.”

It’s safe to say the Cubs definitely had some “persistence” over the past 108 years. Could you go that long without a big payout win? Probably not. Most people would not keep trying to win over a customer after being shot down 2, maybe 3 times. How do you plan to win at anything if you just give up? If you can get yourself to operate on the knowledge that you cannot fail, then you will be persistent and consistent in your actions, training, and growth.

How to be persistent

  1. Never give up, knowing you cannot fail
  2. Train daily
  3. Strive for greatness
  4. Write down your goal’s daily
  5. Take action

Never Give Up

What is it that you really want? What is your purpose? What goals do you have? What do you focus on each day?

The biggest mistake you can make is to QUIT. You should never Give Up. The only way you can fail, is by quitting. If you keep on swinging the bat, eventually you will hit the ball. If you stop swinging the bat, you will never have a chance to hit the ball. If the Cubs gave up and closed down the team, they never would of had the chance to win another World Series.

Never quit. Keep swinging the bat and eventually you will knock one out of the park.

Train Daily

Training daily means exercising, reading books, watching video, listening to audio, taking notes, practicing, drilling, rehearsing, reading more book, watching more videos, listening to more audio, taking even more notes, practicing more, drilling more, rehearsing more, and on and on and on. Constantly be training each and every day. This is the only way a boxer can stand in a ring, get his face punched in several times, and still be up and ready to fight. If someone untrained, or someone who just ‘occasionally’ trains, stepped into the ring it would not be very pretty. If you stop training, stop learning, stop growing, you will become stagnant and never be able to accomplish your goals and reach your dreams. You’ll then fall into the trap of making excuses like “nothing good ever happens to me,” “I must be unlucky,” “I deserve to have _____,” “I’m entitled to _____.”

How do you expect to be able to run marathon, or even a 5k, if you never train? How do you expect to advance in your career if you never put any effort to grow your knowledge? You do not have to go to college to be successful, but you do have to put forth effort to train, to grow, to learn, and to take action.

You will need to Practice, Drill, & Rehearse daily to build knowledge, confidence, and the ability to anticipate outcomes.

Train so that you become so resilient, confident, and knowledgeable, that nothing can stop you.

Strive for Greatness

Is “Good” really good enough for you? Does being average really pay you? When you’re “just getting by”, does that make you feel secure? Is your true potential “Just good enough”? Do you wake up in the morning and think “OH WOW! I’m so glad I’m running the Rat Race today!”?

Everyone has this potential in them, that is far greater than they believe they possess. Your potential is far greater than you know it to be. You are this being that is full of energy and creativity, and if you can tap into just an ounce of that, coupled with a focus on some massive goals, you will set yourself up for greatness.

Understand you can, and you will.

Write down your goal’s daily

If you are not focused on your goals each day, then how do you expect to go anywhere? There’s a saying “Not all who wander are lost” — J.R.R. Tolkien, which is a very true statement. You don’t need to have everything figured out, but my only concern about wondering around is if it’s done aimlessly.

Success is about the journey, not the destination” — I don’t know who is originally quoted saying that, a lot of people claim it. I guarantee you that if you ask any famous athlete, entrepreneur, business person, investor, ect… if the “journey” is all that really matters, they are going to tell you “NO.” Why is that? They want the trophy, the gold necklace, the financial freedom, the RESULTS. A company cannot have financial solvency without results. An individual cannot gain financial freedom without results. Don’t get me wrong, the journey is important, but the designation is more important. Without a destination, you’re simply lost. The destination could change slightly over time though. You may start out going to the Holiday Inn, and you wind up at the Ritz-Carlton.

What you create is what you have your focus on.

Take action

So you’ve decided to not give up, you started training every day, you’re writing your goals down to focus on them daily, now what? Take Action. Take more action. Do things that bring you one step closer to your goals, then do them again. Keep taking those actions over and over, regardless of any opposition, roadblocks, struggles, or anything else. It won’t be easy, you won’t always want to do it, but this is where training each day, never quitting, and focusing on your goals come in. Persistence: “firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.”

You train daily to gain knowledge and motivation, you set your goals to shoot for greatness and focus on them daily, you never give up on them, and you continue to take actions toward your goals.

Without taking action, you can go nowhere
