Lost in translation — helping hacks and devs speak the same language

I work at the intersection of journalism and technology. Part of my job involves helping hacks and developers speak to each other in a language that each understands.

A lot of journalists that I work with are comfortable with the idea of sprints and scrums, or know their way around Jira and Confluence.

In response to questions from coders, I compiled this public Google document of arcane and not-so-arcane newsroom terminology.

If you’ve always wanted to know where the back bench was, are frightened by the idea of a blob par or need to know your Nib from your Sib, then this is your chance.

Different papers and countries have their own idiosyncratic slang for the same terms, so please feel free to comment on/add to/share/update this document…

Thanks to @kathleenwyatt for her help.
