November 2019 Horoscopes
The Light Behind the Darkening Skies

Well, no rest for the weary of tyranny! As we are approaching major astrology in Jan 2020, many different aspects of our society are going through a death and renewal phase. We may not be able to perceive the bigger picture while trapped or mesmerized or anxiety-ridden by political malfeasance, economic collapse, climate disasters and an overall sense of doom. Yet, because we are poised to end one paradigm in favor of another, all of the worst examples and results of greed, corruption and sociopathy are on the table.
This is not based on politics but on natural law (even though political groups, lobbyists, and corporations have distorted or manipulated power behind the scenes). But that too, the misuse of money and influence, may be part of a larger impetus for the development of consciousness.
Because our current world view — that of hierarchy and polarity — is now untenable and we cannot grow as individuals or as a society until this construct is overthrown and replaced with a more equitable, circular and cooperative model. We can no longer live the lie of separation and lack of self-worth.
For too many centuries we have projected our personal power outward (or rather, were programmed to hand it over) to parents, religious leaders, law enforcement and military, professors and leaders of every stripe. And the powerful or well-placed have projected their weakness and dependency onto their serfs, help, workers, slaves, the masses. Pluto in Capricorn, along with many other transits, is announcing a changing of the guard. We must wrestle back our inner authority figures and stand tall and in worthiness and deservedness. This takes place in family, personal relationships, working environments, as citizens. The only way the distortion and imbalance will continue is if we look or walk away.
Once again, this was made manifest in after the election of Trump, millions of people took to the streets in protest to his racist and sexist policies. More individuals, particularly women and people of color, have decided to run for office and won. While the situation looks dire with a deranged criminal in the white house and a treasonous dereliction of duty congress, this is just the last of the ugliness (that was always there to some degree) to rise to the surface to be seen and eventually expelled.
You DO matter, your WORDS matter, your moral VALUES matter regardless of what we’ve been brainwashed into thinking.
Also society will be going through growing pains with the eventual limits placed on capitalism (or the virulent form practiced now) and the evolution of a more egalitarian and truly democratic society.
Longwindedly, this brings us to now and the revelation and admission that change will be a constant for the next few years if not the entire decade of the 2020’s. (America’s Pluto return — the end of the cycle and beginning of another of appropriate use of power- occurs in 2024).
And so with the deep background track of Pluto in Capricorn, this month we will be jostling with the energies of Libra and Scorpio waking up the evolution in values of Uranus in Taurus.
JUNO IN LIBRA SQUARE CHIRON IN ARIES
an attempt at fairness
Juno, the marriage, partnership and business dealings planet moves into Libra on Nov 4th. Juno believes in fairness and cooperation, which, in a different moment in time ,would be admirable. That sense of balance does not seem to be in play these days with a trampling of truth and rights every which way. Nevertheless we do seek equilibrium and justice and the appearance of fair play, however small, reminds of our desire for civility and civilization.
Early on in her travels, Juno hits an opposition with Chiron in Aries. The asteroid Chiron represents our core soul wounds and in the sign of Aries, it is literally about our right to exist. Chiron in Aries people may harbor a lot of suppressed rage (or occasionally are excessive ragers) due to the fact that they were not recognized or appreciated for themselves in an essential way. And, even if or when they took steps to express themselves, they were suppressed or abused or gaslit for telling their truths.
Chiron is the wounded warrior who fails to get the respect they desire and, as normal humans, require. Clearly, most of us did not get our inner needs met so we are all walking around with gashes and holes in our self-esteem, appearance and personal identity.
All of us are traumatized in ways, large and small and it is in the “holy” alliance of relationships where the issues and hurts come up more fully.
So in your attempt to work out personal, business, romantic or creative partnerships, understand that if there is resistance, it is due to a feeling of not being properly seen or heard. Take time out to hear the other person’s side, account for thin-skinnedness and honor the person’s story.
You will most likely encounter some level of pushback in the days surrounding Nov 8th and 9th in this area of life:
ARIES — in negotiations with others, in this instance, you may feel underappreciated so notice if the current reaction is based on the present tense or something from your past
TAURUS — you like the idea of being treated as an equal at work, but some part of you feels you are not worthy and wonder if they know the real you (who feels damaged inside)
GEMINI — there may be a new romantic interest but your focus seems to be on a public form of “self care”, can your reconcile the two?
CANCER — things may be coming together at work but some part of you doubts their sincerity, you are carrying the wounds of your mother or the ones she inflicted on you, use the rage to get ahead, not get even
LEO — there may be an close friend or neighbor who wants to work with you, yet you may question their larger motivation, don’t let the fears of being part of an organization prevent you from considering the offer
VIRGO — you may have new financial suitors who would like to work with you but this is overshadowed by a sense that you may be screwed over (this is most likely detritus from the past, an old lover, close associate) so consider their offer as a fresh new perspective on self
LIBRA — you are seeking to get closer to someone but they are questioning your intentions (they harbor old stories of rejection so be gentle but consistent in your efforts).
SCORPIO — you would kind of like to let go of your suspicious exterior, but not sure that co-workers would still respect you if you softened up. The world doesn’t have to be as hard as you make it and high school experiences do not need to determine your future or who you are
SAGITTARIUS — there is the invitation to join a new crowd while you may still carry some wounds around rejection from childhood. Trust that they see you as a worthy cohort.
CAPRICORN — you are killing it at work, but you wonder if they would be so impressed if they knew “the real you”. That “real you” is not real at all but simply a ghostly scar from your relationship with your mother. Trust the praise and the incentive to grow.
AQUARIUS — important people see you as capable and actually look up to you as an expert. You carry around the voice and image of the loser or misfit from childhood. Aquarius’ are ahead of their time, can sometimes come off as cold, but those days are long gone and you are the flavor du jour. This is your time!
PISCES — several financial offers may come on the table to partner up with others, don’t let old erroneous images of yourself cause you to undercut or undermine what you are worth.
CERES IN CAPRICORN SQUARE CHIRON IN ARIES
Rage at the mother and the establishment
Mid-month, another feminine asteroid, Ceres will be encouraging us to work through our mother, nurturing and caretaking issues. As Ceres will be on the world axis at 0 Capricorn on Nov 16th , some of these subjects will be front and center in the news.
Just like Juno earlier in the month, Ceres will also connect with Chiron in Aries on the 19th — 21st revealing how our prescribed societal gender roles f”cked with our self esteem. Certainly transgendered individuals are those most likely to have been wounded by suppression, repression and oppression of their real identities that the rest of us cannot truly understand. Who they were was not represented or offered up as a way to be.
But on a smaller scale, many of us did not feel we were appropriately male or female enough or could conform to gender norms. And who is oftentimes the enforcer when it comes to societal expectations? It is often the women or mothers, themselves victims of patriarchy at the very least, that are the most rigid when raising children to fit into society.
Hence we all carry wounds of the patriarchy and the patriarchy’s rigid crystallization of the role of mother. At various times, religious or political ideologies raised up or denigrated the role of women in society — but always to support the elevation of men. Women were and are alternatively the helpmates of men or the evil seductress but never equal or individuated.
Just look at the red-pilled men on conservative extremist forums who rant about women staying in the kitchen and being dominated in bed with their only role being housework and procreation. Liberated women are denigrated vociferously by these devolved masculine types.
So yes, mothers take the brunt of it from both their children and the world’s judgement of them. If you are a mom yourself, you have most likely struggled and or visited this subject and which mom doesn’t worry (except the totally unconscious type) that they are potentially damaging their children? Hint: we all are but awareness does mitigate the personal damage while failing to ameliorate the societal expectations of what it is to be a perfect mother.
We all have a mother whether she were physically or emotionally present or not and we all also possess an inner archetype of the mother as evidenced by our Moon sign. So in fact, we all need different kinds of nurturing based on the moon sign and as long as most mothers do not follow astrology assiduously, they will do the best they can with attempting to raise their children.
Different moon signs also account for the fact that siblings will have an oftentimes totally different experience of the mom and/or also require different things that that mom could or could not provide.
Yet, the moon is an archetype, not a person and no human will be able to fulfill that role, however kind, empathetic or attentive she is. So we must do the inner work of nurturing ourselves and forgive our mothers for doing the best or worst they did.
Ceres in Capricorn (and Ceres is a secondary moon energy) speaks to the working mom, the boss lady mom. If she is not kicking it at work, she might be overly critical at home, micro-managing because she is a workaholic. It would be best for this type of mom to actually work outside the home because she needs to operate in an organizational system and the business world to feel satisfied.
Ceres in Capricorn squaring Chiron in Aries (wound to essential selfhood) will demonstrate where the nurturing most likely failed. Good to know, even if painful, because now we can be the Ceres in Capricorn mother and do the work of healing.
What mixed messages did your mom give you about the ways of the world?
ARIES — if you are to be successful, could you be yourself?
TAURUS — does an outward professed faith square with your internal sense of God/dess?
GEMINI — are you judged and/or accepted or rejected in your social group based on your sexual partner?
CANCER — will a traditional marriage allow you to be an independent career woman?
LEO — can an ordinary job allow you to grow philosophically or spiritually?
VIRGO — does the desire for (or presence of ) children put a damper on your sex life?
LIBRA — does settling down mean I lose the spark in my relationship?
SCORPIO — will depression or old expectations limit your realization of satisfying work?
SAGITTARIUS — if you gotta make money, can you still have fun or be creative?
CAPRICORN — if everyone expects me to be the leader, when do I get to let my hair down?
AQUARIUS — can fears of rebuffs from consensus society repress the free expression of your voice?
PISCES — will trying to fit into the right crowd may limit your independent creative streak?
MARS IN LIBRA SQUARE PLUTO IN CAPRICORN
power struggles
Mars will be active this month as well. For much of the month the planet of sexuality and aggression, ambition will be in Libra, hence a more passive-aggressive but also relationship and fairness focused approach. For the first two weeks, Mars will be squared by Pluto (the powers that be) and there will be power struggles both personal, professional and politically.
Any attempts at fairness may be blocked (have we not already been witnessing this for the past six weeks), and those with strings and financial muscle will do their darnedest to keep people in their places. And these conflicts may once again not be new, but rather the continuation of your Pluto saga of self-empowerment against the odds that has been going on for the last couple of years.
Depending on your sign, you will experience challenges to your desire for peace and equity here:
ARIES — you or a partner may be struggling over primacy in the relationship, you have pressure at work and don’t need to be fighting with your significant other
TAURUS — you may want to take a new approach to work, but old programs of status and accountability may get in the way
GEMINI — you are motivated to seek out more fun and entertainment, but money or the fear of losing it gets in the way alternatively, you may choose to experiment with more creativity on your projects but the business partners want you to do things the consensus way (or will only finance traditional means of doing business)
CANCER — you may inspired to redecorate your home or office but others are being stodgy and resistant to change or you’d like to move and your partner is adamant against it
LEO — you’d like more opportunity for creative expression but there are the responsibilities of the day job that crushingly prevent you from exploring that option
VIRGO — it’d be nice to seek out a better paying job or flex a new skill set, but your inner dialogue around
change or freedom is blocking you, you may be hard on yourself for failing to launch a creative endeavor (or failing in that) in the past and think this is too risky this time
LIBRA — you’d like to pursue or create a new self-image or presence but you get pushback from those at home or like Virgo, you’ve internalized the fear, guilt and shame of your mother and are paralyzed when attempting to grow
SCORPIO — you feel the stirrings of a romantic spirit, but your tough personality ego want to crush this right away
SAGITTARIUS — perhaps you are on the verge of connecting to a new tribe or changing goals, but you worry about the bottom line, how much will it cost you?
CAPRICORN — there is possibly a competitor at work flexing his or her muscles, decide if you can sway them your way. You have the power, but use it wisely. This person could ultimately be an ally.
AQUARIUS — there is the desire to expand your knowledge and philosophical/spiritual base, but some part of you feels its too woo woo — the inner conservative voice who has always made you feel badly for being different, follow the promptings
PISCES — you may have a sexual partner who is demanding more of your time, but you have many responsibilities and goals for your future that seem to take precedence (once you’ve achieved them or relented on them, you will have time for more intimacy).
Pluto is our shadow self and (the collective shadow) and because most of us are not totally self-aware (and certainly as a country we are driving blind) we tend not to own this inner archetype. Hence, he will be projected outward in the form of a bully, abuser, “the man”. That is why ad naseum I am talking about our Pluto in Capricorn cycle as the reemergence of the nation’s shadow of racism, sexism, xenophobia, classicism. This must be dealt with and something must die — let it be the hidden darkness come to light.
MERCURY DIRECT IN SCORPIO
What secrets came to light?
Halloween last month marked the beginning of the final Mercury retrograde of the year. Since then, we have been dealing with the news and revelations of the last three weeks. In the sign of Pluto, the transformer, this has been an intense mercury retro where we may have been confronted with old secrets, old emotional losses and feeling of betrayal or abandonment. Yet, as Scorpio can turn shite into gold, there may have been the opportunity to burn through this pain and develop a stronger center and get in touch with the inner divine feminine (this is if you are a man or a woman). Scorpio and the dark moon (and Mercury retro in Scorpio clearly reflects this) speak of ancient matriarchal societies where sex was used a method of purification and transmission of the divine goddess energies.
While women often dress more seductively during this season, perhaps it is an unconscious attempt to access the power of their sexuality. This is something that can be grasped and integrated into your life once the retrograde is over.
There can alternatively be rage over certain transactional business or sexual situations that feel unfair or demeaning. Where did you feel this before? Is this your own shame and rage or that imprinted upon you by an unwitting and unconscious patriarchy?
During such a retrograde in Scorpio, we have had the chance to face our shadow, which contrary to popular belief, is a source of great inner strength and power. We generally suppress our stronger emotional reactions such as rage, jealousy, or even ambition and a sense of purpose, and during the retrograde period we have a chance to unearth these repressed parts of ourselves and bring them into full (and healthy) flowering. #Timesup, #meetoo, #black lives matter, (anything to do with sex or death) are all Scorpionic movements.
But with Pluto in the background, all of our shadows are coming to light and by owning them, this is how we heal ourselves and society at large.
Over the past few weeks, where did you experience a change of heart/mind or emotion regarding your sexual or emotional power? Once Mercury turns direct on November 20th, you can integrate this awareness into your life and relationship dynamics.
ARIES — in your sexual or financial situations
TAURUS — with the significant other or business partner
GEMINI — you may have noticed how your suppressed rage or sexual issues have affected your health
CANCER — your desire for enmeshment or deep merging can leave you dis-empowered
LEO — a greater realization around family secrets or your mother’s emotional compromises
VIRGO — understanding how your siblings were damaged
LIBRA — noticing that you may have suppressed your sexual nature to get along or make money
SCORPIO — an awareness of how you betrayed yourself or let your emotions override your judgement
SAGITTARIUS — how fears of betrayal have kept you silent or compliant
CAPRICORN — worries of how you are perceived by others may have kept your emotions suppressed
AQUARIUS — your dad’s expectations or failures have influenced your career pursuits
PISCES — fear of God’s retribution or” sin” could have held you back in standing up for yourself
In all cases, the new desires are actually more in line with your future self, but the heavier imprints of how it should look or be are still there. Eventually the old ways will die but now may not be the exact time (just note this as a glimmer of hope and new direction) until the dominant cultural narrative falls away. Be kind to yourself if you get beaten down but know that this seed light will flourish in the next few years.
MARS IN SCORPIO OPPOSING URANUS IN TAURUS
What you want, what you’re motivated by and
what or who is standing in your way
Mars moves into Scorpio around Thanksgiving weekend and contacts headlong into Uranus in Taurus. Mars and Uranus are fireworks, drama, chaos and happening on Turkey Day, suggests a lot of explosive conflict among family members. Of course, the obvious topic will be the current administration, but underneath the arguments are some core differences in values. Mars in Scorpio is rather pragmatic, cynical, transactional, conniving and is figuring out what’s best for them, thinking they can beat the odds. Uranus in Taurus is sparking a new conversation around values and what is important in life. These values are changing in front of our very eyes as the younger generations are not as fixated on money and status and the older set. What worked for those born in the 1960’s and 70’s — working hard, corporate dreams, amassing money — is not even an option for most millenials. So parents and grandparents will be sparring with the Gen Y and Gen Z over their futures and the future of this country.
In more prosaic areas, Mars Uranus can be unexpected sexual connections, breaks, meetings as well as accidents, weather and electrical events, violence and explosions. It is hot energy so if you don’t need to go there, avoid doing so. But for those who walk around with their heads in the sands, this is a mini wake-up call to make changes in their lives, lest the universe do it for them (and if this happens, its because we’ve abdicated our decision making power or will). But this will be to no avail as this is a time for shocks, epiphanies and sudden change.
Carl Jung in his later years was enamored of astrology and hence our modern psychological selves can work with or interpret the cosmos (both inside and out) if we follow the universal cues of the planets and cycles. If not, we will see this inner archetypes and energies pushed outward as events.
Where might you encounter an electrical emotional fire?
ARIES — business partners or financial advisers want you to change tactics while you have some new skills and ideas you’d like to try
TAURUS — your partner may be aggressive and find that you are no longer the pushover you once were, changes in relationship dynamics
GEMINI — co-workers or the office may want you to do something but you question it’s legality or efficacy, your values are changing and just doing it for the money doesn’t work anymore
CANCER — a lover or child is codependent and wants you to focus on them while you are more interested in exploring a
new idea, tribe or humanitarian project, right now, it’s not about one person, but many
LEO — there is some conflict at home with family proposing you work or be a certain way, you no longer want to follow the old dreams and have your sites on a new ambition, chaos around parents, job or moving
VIRGO — close friends or siblings are demanding your time but your sights are on farther shores, you’ve grown beyond these bonds and they sense your impatience for newer pastures
LIBRA — you’re still motivated by the money, but new interests and connections are signalling a different way of looking at life and monetary values
SCORPIO — you yourself may be the catalyst for change or your partner decides they need a break (or may come on stronger), fireworks in relationships
SAGITTARIUS — while you may still worry about financial failure, it is worth trying new things (or old things that previously failed) by seeing their purpose and execution in a new light. Besides, it may not have been time yet to introduce the idea or product. NO worries as society will be catching up in the next few years.
CAPRICORN — you feel obligated to post about your success and outward reputation, but you are finding that these public views of happiness are not real and do not match up with burgeoning feelings of an entirely new level of creativity and fulfillment
AQUARIUS — your boss (or job) is demanding your time but you’d rather focus on redesigning your home or lifestyle. Money and reputation do have dollar signs attached ,but deep emotional satisfaction is priceless and you are discovering the value of the latter.
PISCES — you may still feel the allure of a guru or spiritual practice, but it might be time to follow your own inner guidance system. The words of a “great one” are compelling, but the times call for anew way of looking at the world.
Mars/Uranus is a quick change of course but one that your soul was asking for. Aquarians and adrenaline seekers find it thrilling while the rest of us may feel our world is turned upside down. But, in truth, it’s just that the furniture was rearranged to allow for more space and growth in your life.
And when it comes to planetary aspects, the more powerful planet “wins” and in this instance, it is Uranus. So rather than hunkering down and resisting change, allow for the breakthroughs as they will open a window to a new way of seeing and being that is more commensurate with our rapidly arriving future.
THE TIDE THAT LIFTS ALL BOATS IS CONSCIOUSNESS
And you may wonder why as an astrologer I now focus so much on global or political topics. These are, to repeat an overused phrase, unprecedented times where besides political and economic upheaval, we face a potential global mass extinction due to climate change.
And to that point, I believe astrology is an important tool that can help us navigate these global planetary issues on both the micro, macro and meta levels. Our personal development and healing connect to and affect the world around us.
And timing matters as we are in a very important historical moment that will not only determine our fates as a nation but as a planetary species. So waking up personally will assist in transitioning this world from one outworn destructive paradigm into a more fully integrative and loving reality.
And to that point, I’ve created a new weekly podcast entitled Metaphysical Correspondent where I address larger global and societal issues through an astrological and consciousness perspective.
