I love this poem, and the last two lines say it all. It is about you, and that’s for and because of the ones you love, the one’s you don’t know but know in your heart are also deserving of love, and all those who have professed to care for so long, for so many. Why are their voices not being heard?

It’s only personal and not political if you’re feeling the unfairness, the lies and treachery all around, and even though you know better, you’re not yet ready to stand up and be counted. Then it’s personal until you get with yourself and ask yourself why. What gives you permission to sit this one out and let the world as you hoped it was heading take a dramatic ugly u-turn back to the “good old days” when segregation took care of so many problems? When you face your own demons and get right with yourself, then it stops having to be silent and personal because you’re ready to own it.

Sherry, you’re providing support for those who need to see the freedom in writing and caring from your heart. I’m proud of you and would love to walk beside you.
