Title: Landscape (Factories)

Materials: Oil on canvas

The painting shows a factory located beside a nature. It actually depicts what is really happening nowadays in our surroundings. We tend to forget our responsibility to take good care of our environment and that this painting reminds us to be careful and to not damage it any further because we will not be able to enjoy the beauty of it.

Artist: Agustin Goy

Title: Sa ugoy ng duyan

Materials: Oil on canvas

The painting depicts a sleeping mother rocking a cradle to help her child to fall into asleep. I can somehow relate to this painting because it shows how a mother can do anything for the benefit of her child. It amazes me how a mother can do so much to the point that they forget to take care of themselves which shows sacrificial love.

Artist: Fernando Amorsolo y Cueto

Title: The Burning of Santo Domingo Church

Materials: Oil on canvas

This painting shows the destruction of Santo Domingo Church brought about by tremendous fire that happened in the 1940’s. I felt amazed just by seeing this painting because the way it was brought into a painting was one of a kind. It was able to impart and to make us understand some situations that happened to our country way back then.

Artist: Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda

Title: Vista de Gendarmenmarkt en Berlin

Materials: Graphite on paper

The drawing shows Rizal’s visit to Berlin. The moment I saw the drawing I felt so proud because like Rizal, I was also from Calamba, Laguna and seeing one of his own works from the very first time made me admire him all the more. There are only a few people born with such kind of talent and being able to witness it through their works made me appreciate their talent even more.

Artist: Ricarte M. Puruganan

Title: Graveyard Scene

Materials: Oil on canvas

I felt intrigued when I saw the painting because it shows a group of souls/person which seemed as though they will go to hell. We sometimes thought that a person who passed away was in a peaceful state but this painting allowed me to question what if those people are in a place we don’t expect it to be?

Title: The Black Nazarene of Quiapo

Materials: Oil on canvas

The painting depicts a procession during the feast of the Black Nazarene. It shows how religious Filipinos are and that even though there are so many things that are happening in our lives, we’re still able to give our utmost time for the sake of praising our Lord.

Artist: Rock Drilon

Title: Paintbrush on Green Rectangle

Materials: Acrylic and mixed media on canvas

This work of art was able to express something which is that all beautiful things starts with simple things. It shows that something beautiful will be made as shown in the painting. It made me realize to give importance to the simple things in our life since we tend to be looking for more and not see the beauty in those simple things.

Artist: Juan Luna Y Novicio

Title: Spoliarium

Materials: Oil on canvas

The painting shows an event during the Roman Empire wherein the gladiators die for the sake of entertainment. I felt sad when I saw the painting because no one deserves to be treated like that no matter who they are. Even though a person was born without power it doesn’t mean that they should experience harsh treatment like what is being depicted in the painting.
