She rose from the abyss,
ashes within ashes,
mist cloaking her features —
a dauntless beauty awakening

from the darkness of her pain
and flashes of grief.
Through the fiery torment
she heard a voice calling, beckoning.

Feeling choked by the blackness around her
she followed the sound
that was nothing more than a whisper
yet filled her inside, echoing.

Caused by her upward momentum
cracks began to form.
Light seeped into the darkness.
The blackness was lessening.

She cried out in anguish and pleasure
as her heart and soul found the sun,
the last tendrils of the demon’s grasp
retreating to their own hell, descending.

Her beauty no longer obscured,
she shone like celestial fire!
The once trapped soul was free
as it should have been from the beginning.

I stood gasping for air. Just 10 minutes of working my abdominal muscles and my skin was as sweaty as it gets after a 30-minute session of kickboxing at the gym. Maybe sweatier. Chloe Ting’s second-day video kicked my butt.
