Art Feeds The Soul

My First Painting (2012) and certainly not my last

Making art in any of its forms is necessary for the human experience. It feeds our souls in ways that money and possessions can’t.

Everyone is a creator, everyone. Every time I’m in a painting class I hear people say “I have no talent” and they self-fulfill that statement. Everyone creates, everyone has talent if they care enough to work at what they’re doing.

Talent isn’t inborn, talent is created through iteration and learning. Yes, there are gifted individuals among us, but even they must toil and sweat and work to perfect their gifts.

Life is work, art is work. It’s in the work that we grow.

There’s no better feeling in the world than looking at something you’ve created with your hands or your mind and feeling a fascinated wonder at the beauty you’ve created.
