Good question! I see them as close cousins, but I think the difference comes down to whether or not you are experiencing the other person’s emotions. So, I, for example, could identify that someone is feeling angry, without actually becoming angry myself.
In some ways, it’s a bit of semantics, especially when placed in the context of how the average person uses the terms. But, I do know that if I were to get stressed out every time I was around someone who was experiencing stress, my quality of life wouldn’t be too hot!
