Several years ago, before Hurricane Katrina, my husband and I found ourselves on the Mississippi Coast and, since I really enjoy history, we went to the Jefferson Davis Home. We did a self tour and it was OK until we got to the gift shop. Before I go on, both of us have lived in the south all our lives and that means in “Confederate” states. In the Gift Shop one could not purchase anything which was not blazened with the Confederate Battle Flag. In the bubble in which we had been living we did not see this any more except on occasion. Suddenly we knew we did not belong there and made a quick exit. I believe this was in 1997. Also, this is going to be a long battle!
