Awesomeness of a parents
“Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children — Proverbs 17:6"
When I was surfing at you tube, there was a video that caught my attention, it was entitled 9 reasons why asian parents are awesome. As I watch it, I was amazed because what they are said are true, as a asian, I observed what they said, that asian parents are so careful to their children.
Here are the reasons why asian parents are awesome according to “off the great wall.” And here are also my expiriences and observations about to what they said.
- Asian parents makes the best food — Asian parents won’t let you and their children to eat a “just food” and when I say just food, it is like junk food, spaghetti’s, pizzas, chesse burgers and any fast food that you know. Although here in the Philippines, there are many fast food, still our parents won’t let us eat fast food everyday. Mind you, even the least vegetable you like, they can make it edible in your sight. In my expirience, I don’t like to eat bittergourd, I don’t know why? Maybe I just don’t like the bitter taste of it, and the wrinkles that I feel in my tongue everytime that I eat it but my parents make a way for me to eat bittergourd and that is mixing bittergourd with other vegetable and they lessen the bitter taste of it by soaking it in a water with lots of salt in it. I also observe this in my sister food attitude, she doesn’t like to eat fish, she said that she just don’t like to eat fish but my parents did not let that happen, for my sister to eat fish, they made a dumpling out of fish and because of that, my sister started to eat fish.
- They never let you hungry — As what in the off the wall said, asian parents never let their children hungry, you have to eat on a exact time of meal plus a snacks. In our house, we need to eat breakfast at 6:00 in the morning, if you are a student and 8:00 in the morning is the late time when you can eat your breakfast because if we don’t do that, our mother will be mad and she will tell you that it is already late in the morning, near to noon and yet you don’t eat your breakfast?! Because we love our mother so we need to eat early breakfast even of we don’t want to yet. Same in the lunch and dinner time. But my mother and father did not let us to have our midnight snack because it is bad in our sleep. My parents also tell us that we should know how to cook so that we will never be hungry whenever that they don’t around but I don’t know or learn how to cook because whenever our parents was not around, they always leave a cooked food for us for lunch and dinner if they did not go home early.
3. They are exelent bargain hunters — If the coupons are availables in the Philippines, I do believe that my parents will be a no.1 fan of it. Haha. Why? Because they love to bargain, one time when I was with my mother in the market, she look for a fish that she can cook whenever we wanted to eat fish, when she ask the price, she was shocked because it is expensive so she bargain for a lower price so that she can have the fish, she argued with the vendor and in the end, she got the fish for a lower price. I also observed this to my parents and to other parents when we are in a grocery store. Parents are also love to buy things that has a free something in it. For example, you can buy a 1 kilo of pasta with a 1 liter of tomato sauce, another, you can buy a can of milk with a free canister in it or a buy one take one cornbeef and vegetables. Even though we don’t have a coupon, there is still a way to have this bargain thing our parents would love to have. Why? Because it helps them to save their money at the same time it add to the stock in the house.
4. They have remedy for everything — Yeah this is true for all asian parents and I think even to not asian parents out there. They make a way to resolve all of the problems that the family has. For example, in my expirience, I got sick and I was away in our house, I told my father that I want to go home because I feel that I will not be healed in our boarding house because no one will take care of me what my father does was he took me to our boarding house and got me home using our car even it uses much gas and we got home, he just let me eat malunggay soup or horse radish soup to decrease my body temperature, he did not buy any biogesic or flu medicines because he does not want me to inatake too much medicone in my body and he believes that because horse radish has a antibacterial content that can help me recover from flu.
So instead that he buys medicines that are costly, he just use some remedies that are useable. Another experience of mine in this is the time when i don’t keep my school shoe for a long time. I don’t know why but I cannot use a single school shoe for a whole year. My parents decide that instead of buying new shoes everytime my shoes are ruined, they just repair it in our shoe shop, it is not costly at the same time, I can utilized my shoes.
5. They are your musical coaches — I am not boastful here, I have a good voice and a skill in playing guitar, same as my brother and younger sister, we have a good voice but different musical skill, unlike me, my brother knows how to play piano and my younger sister knows how to play guitar and drums. My father, who has also have a good voice and plays guitar teaches us how we should sing a song and the good tempo, melody and harmony in singing it, he is not as good as professionals but hey, when he teaches us, he is like a music coach. Haha
6. They put you before themselves — Parents have this kind of attitude, asian parents or not. I know that every parents must have this kind of character and attitude because i know that they love their offsprings so much. I always remember here my mother, during christmas, she did not let us celebrate christmas without new clothes even though she and my father does not have a new one. Another one is the place where they sleep, they let to sleep in our salas while us on the other hand was sleeping in a bedroom, that is how my parents put their offpsring first. And even in the food, even though they did not eat, as long as their offspring, which is us eats, they are happy and contended.
7. They always have room for you to stay — In my life, now that I have living in a boarding house because of my study, they did not use my bed to whatever they wanted to, they maintain it and change its bed sheets and pillow sheets so that whenever I got home, I have a good bed to sleep with and a comfortable one. They also respect my privacy because even though they clean it, they dod not move any thing in my bed.
8. Welcome you anytime — I remember the first time I left our house, that is when I was a freshman, a week after I got home and my parents cooked for me especially my favorites, they but me an ice cream, which is my most favorite comfort food and until now, when me and my brother got home from our school, they cooked delicious food for us.
9. And lastly, they are always there for you — This is what I love the most about my parents, they are always there for me, in times of my sucess and in times of my failure. I remeber the time when I was so down because I did not graduate on time, my parents intead of blaming for what i’ve done, they just talk to me, mad a little but in the end, they just comfort me and told me that everything will be okay. Although sometimes, I hear my parents telling something to me about the future but they know better that I can overcome this problem and even in our future problem, I know that my parents will be still there in our side.
So there, are my expiriences about that and until now, I was so happy and thankful to God because He gave me a kind of parents like my parents, not because they are asian but because they are the best parents for me.
I know that not just the asian parents have this kind of attitude, but also all of the parents in the world. So we, as a children of my parents and a children of God, we must be tankful to our parents because without them, I don’t know where will I be. Also to God because without Him we don’t have a parents that we have today.
As what it is said in Ephisians 6:1
“Children obey your parents for this is right”
Obeying our parents will bring us joy and it will live us longer in earth.
