Howdy! I’ve been a designer for 40+ years. I have created, worked for and taught some amazing people for these 4 decades. Not boasting just stating, my students have won over 50+ awards and are team leaders for everyone from Bloomingdales to Calvin Klein to Citibank to NY Mets to the NFL to NBC, CBS, and ABC, etc.

Been a lot of fun. I teach from Freshmen to Graduate level and I do agree it is all about passion and hard work. If I have to ask you to do your assignment — change careers.

However please do not minimize a good design background/education and a formal one at that. A good design teacher will enhance your career potential. Please view my LinkedIn profile I am very proud of my 40+ recommendations some from students who have been “out” for over 30 years.

Yes, natural talent can be critical. But technology — as forward moving as it is — has taken a back seat to the ability to problem solve. Today the “how” takes a backseat to the “why”.

BTW — I have been using a Macintosh since the OS was 6.0.1 and put up websites since 1994. Love my tech but nothing replaces solving a problem and yes you can and need to be trained in advanced critical thinking.
