Yeah, but they’ve also been eliminated three times by the Rangers, including an embarrassing 5–0 loss at home in Game 7 in 2013. Sure, we’ve all been shutout by Henrik Lundqvist at some point, but this was a game in which they:
Got down 1–0 by allowing a goal to Arron Asham (94 career goals, 11 games left in his career)
Fell behind 2–0 on a goal by Taylor Pyatt (6 goals in 48 games that year). That goal was assisted by Derek Dorsett (65 career points) and Steve Eminger (99 career points).
Went down 3–0 on a goal by defenseman Michael Del Zotto (48 career goals)
And fell down 5–0 on the first postseason goal ever by Mats Zuccarello, who to that point in his career had played a grand total of 74 NHL games.
That was the game where the Capitals were over, to me. It’s one thing to be beat by future HOFers like the Pens have, but to get smoked by those guys, at that stages of their career was inexcusable.
