Black Mothering Is A Means Of Protest

Ms Matti:

Life is a struggle for many. Take, please, a good look around the world and write about the struggles of other mothers, who I suggest, face more daunting circumstances than those you purport to exist so detrimentally, systemically in this county.

That you write this country — with all the affirmative action; wars on drugs, poverty, illiteracy, and crime; with huge expenditures on education, social programs, and benefits; which has elevated blacks to the very highest levels of government and other segments of society — has “…tried to crush it [???] in its fist…” is risible.

One might feel that “black” mothering is akin to Sisyphus’ mission (sic), but the implied similarity is hugely misleading. Salient is this: you feel that it is similar. It ain’t.

Sisyphus was punished for his deceit and other behaviour. If you want to apply the lesson of Sisyphus, take it fully. Failing to do so has an effect: “gravity” that “moves backwards” the empathy and understanding that underlay and supports progressive causes.

Sisyphus did not blame others. He continued his effort.

Get on with it. Please.
