“I, Borg” is fantastic, perhaps my favorite episode. The Enterprise crew comes across a stray injured Borg, and takes him in. While he still wants to assimilate them, there’s a great deal of debate among the crew — chiefly Picard, Geordi, Dr. Crusher, and Guinan — as to what to do with him.

Crusher and Geordi take a liking to him and try and nurse him back to health and get to understand him.

This movie is big, dumb, loud, and ultimately not that entertaining. When I was a kid, this was probably the first movie I was aware of being considered one of the worst movies ever, and while I don’t think it’s quite that bad, it really doesn’t have many redeeming qualities.

The performances are uniformly bad. Nobody knows what they’re doing with this campy material. Clooney is being himself. Arnold is trying, but failing, to bring any kind of humanity to his villainous role.

This episode deals a lot with Swearengen’s dealings with the Chinese, which has never really been the most interesting or entertaining part of the series. But this episode makes it work, with Swearengen’s shrewd business dealings.

He’s even able to take advantage of a camp tragedy.

“Imaginary Friend” has a decent story, but it just asks a lot of some young actors, and they’re not really up for the challenge. I don’t like kids, so I’m not that likely to like a Star Trek episode that has a lot to do with kids. I hate when Worf’s son shows up, and this is a bit like that, I guess.
