I found it interesting that you called out the perhaps less risk intensive nature of the workforce here. Chicago is of course a world trading capital so we certainly have a plethora of risk intensive people here but yes, Midwesterners are ingrained with the find a stable job mentality and perhaps less likely to accept more equity over less pay.
