I first saw Mount Rushmore while driving there through the Black Hills with my then fiancée (now wife). While driving through the twists and turns of the gorgeously dark forest we eventually made a turn and were seeming face to face with Abe Lincoln. After several miles of deep darkness a beautiful breakthrough of sunshine outlined the monument through a clearing in the trees. This was 13 years and one of the most vividly moving experiences of my life. Stunningly glorious.
