Should Sofia Coppola Stay In Her White Lane? Sure. But That Means Acknowledging Her Racism.

Thank you for this well-written, thought-provoking piece. I truly enjoyed it.

However, I don’t for a second believe you know what is in Sophia Coppola’s heart. Without question, there are racial elements (I know, a mind-blowing understatement if there ever was one), but her decision to make the movie she wants to make — the way she chooses to make it — does not entitle anyone to brand her a racist. She’s may be a white woman, but she is a woman. She cannot possibly know what it is to be a woman who is black. She makes movies from her perspective, her tiny little slice of the universe. So what? It’s her conscious decision.

She’s a racist for that?
