My experience with a Google product

Nexus 5

I recently bought a black Nexus 5 from the Google Play store to replace my old Galaxy Nexus, which has slowed down lately. I am a big fan of technology and especially new gadgets. Whenever I purchase a new gadget, I take my time admiring the complexity and careful design of the packaging for which the company behind the device has painstakingly put together.

My experience with the Nexus 5 was the opposite of disappointing. It was awesome! The packaging put together by Google and LG reminds me of what Apple has done for its iPod touch/iPhone/iPad devices.

So far, the phone itself has also been a joy to use. It is a very smooth experience with no lag, probably due to its top of the line hardware components and unskinned Android 4.4 KitKat. Furthermore, I really enjoy having WiFi-esque speed on the go with LTE service, a feature that my old phone lacked.

Another feature that I was looking forward to tinkering with was its camera. Starting with the Nexus 4, Google has added HDR (High-dynamic-range) imaging to phones whose cameras support this feature. However, the camera on my Nexus 5 is a lemon. It cannot focus on any object whatsoever. The pictures were even worse than ones I took with my Galaxy Nexus. Through online forums, I found that others had also experienced the same problem, and they were able to get a replacement by contacting Google. A few days ago I had done the same through e-mail, and I was surprised by the response. The customer service from Google Play Support is fantastic! Even though its primary business is not to sell phones, it is obvious that Google has invested a lot of resources in making sure that its customers stay loyal to Google and to the Nexus program.

I can’t wait until I receive my replacement phone…hopefully the camera works better this time around!
