Oops......to be fair I mainly use them in comments. I had one time when I typed the smiley face (colon followed by right hand bracket)) when the sign changed into an Emoji spontaneously. We all have our pet hates. In speech I don't like being called a 'guy' or a 'dude' when I'm female but I've been told 'guy' was originally a gender-neutral word. I haven't been able to fact-check that. When I looked up the origin of dude I found that it is supposed to have come from 'Mrs Dudders' who of course was female.
