Dear Salesperson

We’re less than four years away from 2020 and sales still feels dumb and disconnected. Think about the tools you use on an everyday basis. No really, think about them: email, calendar, phone, and CRM…not to mention the applications you’ve hacked together to keep tabs on who’s who and what to do — your notepad, your spreadsheet, your to-do list.

Think about how deeply and unnecessarily rooted this frankensteined system is in your day-to-day: the opening of multiple tabs over coffee, the unread fire-drill emails, the sort-by-last-activity views, and the never-ending list of open tasks you hope your admin might one day close out en masse. And just as you surface for air you hear, “What are your next steps?” “Is this really in Stage 2?” “Where are the notes for this call?” Congrats, the weekend classes of mindfulness and yoga are finally paying off as you artfully suppress thoughts of tossing the company dog out the window.

With Pattern we hope to bring back the human element to sales, to train machines to do the work, and to usher in a new way to win — a way that is thoughtfully designed and beautifully intelligent.

Sales needs to come of age

What if your tools were designed for the person part of salesperson? You know, that competitive spirit that crushes 5 mile runs before work, that cares about building relationships and not so much about finding the “Log a Call” button. What if your tools were designed to treat your customers with respect and not as the unlucky recipients of the misguided activity formula staining your company’s whiteboards: 3 emails + 1 day + 2 calls + 4 days + 5 emails = Closed Won. Right.

Like you, we earned our right to hit the gong. Like you, we burned the midnight oil to make quota. And now, we want to build for you, for us, and for anyone brave enough to carry a bag. Our philosophy is simple: we believe relationships are everything and the details do matter. It’s what separates the fine from the fulfilled, the good from the great.

Relationships are everything

Whether it’s your family, your prospects, your friends, or your colleagues, relationships are what keep us going. At Pattern, we believe we have the best damn team out there — as proven by working alongside each other in the trenches for days on end the past 5 years. We know exactly what brilliance, grit, and laughter we can count on when the going gets tough. And hard times are only bearable when a team pulls together to pull you all through.

Sales is no exception. Relationships underlie the opportunities and stages we manage. The pitch decks, the whitepapers, the back and forth emails are all to reassure the customer that we’re here to solve their problems. Building this trust is what makes ringing the gong that much more shared and celebratory.

Do the small things really, really, really well

Whether we’re showing up for team meetings, responding to customer feedback or simply washing the dirty dishes in the company sink, we take pride in the mechanics of greatness. We have the pattern recognition to understand that this habit of winning in small increments pays off exponentially in the long run.

We have a real opportunity to help our users be their best selves.

With this mindset we obsess over our user experience in the same way you take care in writing up that follow-up email. We’re as meticulous about how we store and process user data as you are when you plan your week on the weekends. We’re addicted to every feature request and bug report because it means we have a real opportunity to help our users be their best selves.

The road ahead

We started Pattern because we have a rock star team, we have unique insights to share with the world, and we have a kickass vision for how things can be better.

We created Pattern for salespeople like you. The ones who persevere, despite soul crushing busy work, to beat quota, month after quota-growing month.

With Pattern we hope to bring back the human element to sales, to train machines to do the work, and to usher in a new way to win — a way that is thoughtfully designed and beautifully intelligent.

Keep us company on this journey and remind us why we’re here. It’s going to be quite the ride.
