I took this photo of a blue light phone because knowing that there are so many of these all around campus help me to feel safe. They are easy to use and, in my experiences, MUPD has always been quick to respond when there was an emergency.
When I stopped for a minute and looked around Wisconsin Avenue, I actually noticed more than I expected I would. I took this picture because though there isn’t much happening in the photo itself, there is much to notice in the small details; the hustle and bustle of the vehichles driving by, the scurry of students to their different destinations, and the sound of the movement of the trees as a breeze blows by.
Something I have never noticed before on campus is actually that I know people in the inspirational posters that plaster Marquette. I took this picture because I always assumed that the people featured in these posters are esteemed alumnae, back when they were still pursuing their undergraduate degree. However, it turns out that these images are new and fresh and full of familiar faces.
This is Molly. Molly was a perfect stranger to me about an hour ago, yet she let me take a picture of her when I asked! I did give her the option of not having her face in the picture, if that would make her feel more comfortable. However, Molly insisted it was okay that I take her picture, face and all. She proudly took her power stance, rolled poster in hand, and flashed me a smile. Thank you, Molly!
Faith inspires me. I believe that faith is one of the strongest forces there is. Whether or not your faith lies in something that is more spiritual, or biblical, I do think it is both a comforting and guiding force, no matter who you are.
WILD CARD! This is my friend Megan, already hard at work studying, so early into this fresh school year. I took this photo because I think Megan’s set up and location perfectly showcase what it means to be a Marquette student- Laptop with a unique case (and if it isn’t the flashy case, it’s about a million stickers), a water bottle, a snack, a notebook, pens galore, and the look that, if audible, would say something along the lines of “what the heck is this”.
One of my biggest dreams in life is to travel. I want to see the world, and everything it has to offer. I took the picture of the flags in the AMU because every time I pass by them, it just reminds me that someday my list of country visits will match the amount of flags hanging in that corridor. I want to be educated and shocked and surprised at what I see in this world. Stepping out of your bounds is the first step in that journey, which is why I am planning to study abroad next semester. No matter which country I find myself in, I can’t wait to soak it all in.
I took this close up image because I found it to be one of the simplest and purest forms of beauty. A sweet, petite and soft pink flower, decorated with varied sizes of water droplets, fresh after what can only be described as the Great 10 Minute Milwaukee Hurricane of 2018. Though they are seemingly minuscule, I think that water droplets add a lot of beauty to the simplest of things, like this small flower for example.
I am personally not big on textures, but I do know that sometimes when they contrast, it can make for something quite beuatiful. The way the smooth and damp vines caress the rough and scratchy brick shows a stark contrast in something ordinary, that we see every day. I took this picture to demonstrate different textures because Marquette is full of old vine-ridden buildings, yet I have never really stopped to look at how eerily beautiful the creepy, crawly vines actually are.
To put it simply, Jesu church is really old. Personally I think it’s one of the most architecturally beautiful and intriguing buildings I’ve seen. The stain glass and ancient seeming design aren’t something you see everyday, and though I do think some modern architecture is pretty, I don’t think anything compares to the classic old style.
When I was walking around completing this assignment with my friend, Laia, one of her first remarks was “time capsule? What am I supposed to do for that”? Despite her confusion, I knew exactly what I wanted to photograph, and I knew it lived on the third floor of Johnston Hall. I used to go to the third floor of Johnston pretty frequently last year to study. I would always sit at the same table next to this time capsule and I always thought it was so cool that one, the Marquette Tribune is like, a million years old, and two, no matter which time period you find yourself in, writing has always been a passion of many. I always was curious about, what the big campus stories were in the 1920’s.
Ah, home sweet home. Cobeen Hall reminds me so much of home because it was my home for all of freshman year. Room 421, a corner room with unbeatable views of the Milwaukee skyline. I experienced a lot of firsts in that room, and in Cobeen in general. I will always feel like I have a home there.
Something familiar… but make it new. Living in Cobeen freshman year, I got the pleasure of experiencing this amazing view of Jesu every single day. I quite like it upside down, it somehow looks so different.
I find red hair to be absolutely beautiful. The way it dances with the light and glitters is magical to me. So, in my photo journal quest, I found a ginger (whom I already knew) and asked if I could take a picture of her picture perfect locks. My best friend from home has red hair and it never ceases to amaze me, how naturally beautiful it is.
Without a doubt, one thing that scares me is the bus stop on 12th and Wisconson. The bus stop itself doesn’t scare me, but the people who wait at it. The amount of cat calls, obvious stares and inappropriate comments I’ve received from men at this stop is alarming. Though I ignore them, they do frighten me a little. The world today is crazy.
Any ordinary, basic person would think to photograph Wild Hall (or I suppose now they’re just calling it “The Commons”?) but I, an artist (much sarcasm implied), thought slightly differently. Since Johnston is basically my home away from home, I couldn’t help but photograph it’s amazing new second floor! I like that it appears so sleek and simple, yet in theory is very colorful. I mean, just think about all of the creativity and brilliant ideas that run through these halls.
