IBL Hangs 10 at SURF — Da Nang Startup Wave

Just down the street from the palm-tree lined beaches of Da Nang, 1000 startup experts and enthusiasts gathered at the Nalod Conference Center to discuss Vietnam’s dynamic startup scene at SURF 2017. The second-annual event hosted by Da Nang Business Incubator brought international speakers and panelists together to highlight the many opportunities, challenges and successes of small, proactive companies within the country and region.

Infinity Blockchain Labs’ Head of Corporate Marketing, Nicole Nguyen and Technical Training Leader,Ha Bui joined Jeff Hoffman (founder of Priceline.com and ColorJar and and former CEO of Enable Holdings), and 35 other startup luminaries to present on topics as diverse as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain. In addition to the speeches and panels that spanned two stages, attendees could visit 38 different company booths and participate in networking events. The two-day event was filled with overwhelming optimism as Vietnam is currently an extremely exciting, fast-paced environment for startup growth and innovation.

IBL Speaks About Vietnam’s FinTech Landscape

Nicole Nguyen joined Tran Thanh Nam (CEO — Moca mobile payment), and Tran Huu Đuc (Director — FPT Ventures) on the Main Stage to discuss the trends, possibilities and difficulties startups face in Vietnam’s FinTech sector. The diverse group spoke about how navigating and adhering to complex regulations and infrastructures promises to yield great prosperity for individual companies and the nation as a whole. They spent time discussing how lending innovations and blockchain technologies are likely to revolutionize the financial landscape.

Nicole spoke in particular about how startups and institutions can collaborate to expand market share, with particular attention paid to the under-banked. She also stressed the importance of startups providing platforms to attract more actors and encourage growth. Tran Thanh Nam discussed the various new services technology will be able to provide financial industries and their customers while Tran Huu Đuc elaborated on FPT Venture’s (the venture fund of Vietnam’s largest Tech corporation) advocacy and community development as well as the Vietnam Fintech Club they support. Nicole was able to add her own insights into the latter on account of IBL’s own membership in the group aimed at helping members understand regulatory efforts and share research and knowledge. The individual messages came together to offer the greater point that Vietnam’s Fintech sector is open and ready for transformation.

In addition to the Main Stage, SURF featured a Founders Stage that allowed for discussions of technical subjects such as accelerators, agritech, chatbots, scaling and early stage investment. IBL Core Engineer, Ha Bui was invited to discuss the ways diverse fields can adopt blockchain technology. She therefore introduced its applications for IoT, logistics, property tracking, identity services, and contracts as examples for potential use. Before answering questions about the scalability of blockchains and multi-sig accounts, Ha offered the steps and key knowledge necessary for adopting blockchain. The talk received great interest from a crowd eager to learn more about such a new topic
