One NoSQL database that might be worth mentioning is MarkLogic. It includes (mostly) a document store but also includes semantics and automated inference. You can then split metadata (for example) into a triples while combining that with search over the regular documents. It also does a fair job (with tiered storage) of illustrating how you might step storage heirarchies.
