Part 3 of a 5 part series that’s my quick ‘minimal essentials’ take (plus my extras) on freeCodeCamp.org’s 14 hour Cloud Practitioner course.

It saves time for quick refreshers, text search and can help everyone with their AWS basics (and optionally study for the Cloud Practitioner exam).

You’ve effectively got my cheat notes.

Solution architecture

Making good use of the main features of cloud:

  • Availability
  • Scalability
  • Elasticity
  • Fault tolerance
  • Reliability

Scalability

That’s just the ability to manually upgrade to bigger servers.

  • Vertical = scaling up (bigger server)
  • Horizontal = scaling out (more servers, preferred: increases availability)

Elasticity

This is more important than scalability.

This is the ability to auto upgrade OR downgrade in capacity as traffic, memory or computing power becomes an issue.
