FSD Robotaxi with NO driver spotted on the streets of Austin. Finally!

This has been a long time coming

3 min readJun 10, 2025

Check out the video link here. And another case in Dallas.

In the lead up to the assumed June 12th start of Tesla’s approved trial of 10 or so Model Y’s in robotaxi mode . . today — June 10th 2025— marks the day one was actually spotted.

This is highly meaningful for both Tesla’s good and as a potential benefit to society.

Musk is not kidding that the camera-only nature of Tesla FSD means that you can indeed put a Tesla FSD EV anywhere on earth and it will drive without significant interventions for at least 100s of miles (notwithstanding a few places with bizarre road rules like in Melbourne, Australia and it’s famous turn-right-from-the-left ‘hook’ turn on streets with trams). As demonstrated by Russian hackers, or Tesla’s demos in the US, China, Melbourne (my home town), Paris and Italy.

There may or will indeed be Chinese competitors that can or will be able to match that.

But Tesla was the first mover in this, can switch on 10 million existing FSD cars and it’s the only approved car with that capability in the west that I’m aware of.

The trial
