There Will Be Days Like These

I really didn’t feel like writing today.

Welcome to Day #13 of my 30-day writing challenge. Catch up on my journey here.

I’m thirteen days into my 30-day writing challenge, and now I’m starting to feel the weight of the daily commitment.

The first week was a blast: I had tons of topics to write about and unlimited energy.

But this week has been rough. My content backlog is low, and none of the topics I have stored felt appealing to write about today.

So, I’m using the “Bare-Minimum” rule: writing the minimum amount of words I was willing to commit to. Just to show up.

And you know what? I feel okay with this.

When we’re trying to build a new habit — be it writing, exercising, eating healthier, starting a new project, or drinking more water — there will be days like these. Days you feel exhausted, and all you want to do is have a relaxing evening.

On days like this, don’t fall for the “it’s okay not to be okay” talk. It’s not that I don’t support this idea; I do think that, sometimes, it’s okay not to be okay. But don’t get too comfortable to the point where you do nothing at all. Because when you are building a new habit, it will be much easier to fall into the same mindset the next day, and then the next.

Instead, do the bare minimum. Something that requires very little effort but that keeps you going just for the sake of the habit.

This publication, for instance, didn’t take 10 minutes of my day.

Write 100 words. Walk 1 mile. Read 3 pages.

Little effort beats no effort every time.
