What did you do this past week?

This week, I worked on homework for my classes as usual. I went to the gym on Monday and did squats for the first time in a while. I couldn’t walk downhill or down any stairs properly for a couple of days, but I think I’m finally not sore anymore. I just got back from a WiCS event. We had a Corporate Reception at Clay Pit and I ate some pretty good food for free and talked to an engineer about her daughter in high school who was looking for advice.

What’s in your way?

The algorithms problem set this week was hard and there’s an exam for that class on Monday. This week also did not go as well as I thought it would go last week, but that’s okay. Another thing in my way was playing water polo in my swim class this week. I was finally ready to jump into the pool without holding onto the rope, but we ended up wearing life jackets the entire time and pretending we were jumping off a sinking cruise ship. Since we had life jackets on, I feel like jumping in and floating to the top by myself didn’t count, but there’s always next week.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I will hopefully pass my algorithms exam with flying colors! Not sure though since I need to study quite a bit of material. My roommate got an extra ticket to the Pink Concert tomorrow night for F1, so I’m looking forward to that even if that’s still technically this week. We will also finish searching, sorting, and filtering for this stage in the SWE project since that’s due on Thursday.

What was your experience with SQL?

I enjoyed learning about SQL. I feel like it’s always been the type of thing in the past that I learned the bare minimum amount of and only when I needed it for something. Going through different types of join in class was good to know and helped me understand what was happening a little bit better.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to not let toxic people in your life get you down. The world is an amazing place full of laughter, joy, and happiness. Don’t waste your time with anything or anyone that makes you question that. This advice doesn’t apply to schoolwork that you don’t want to do. Even things that suck for a little bit have a greater purpose in your life (in this case, getting your degree and giving yourself a better future… or something).
