In fact, you could carry it even further and say that Obama himself is the Original Birther — after all, it was his literary agent who circulated an author’s bio that presented him as African born.

Personally, my own view of the Birther controversy is that, although being born in Hawaii, Obama presented himself as foreign-born at various points in attempts to gain some preferential advantage, scholarship eligibility or admissions preference (This is probably why his college transcripts have been so closely guarded and why he’s gone under so many Barry/Barrack Dunham/Soetero/Obama variations of his name).

It’s hardly reasonable to denigrate others for being confused about someone’s background when the person in question has been so evasive themselves.
