[There’s] something to be said about the development of new ideas that can come from companies like Apple, Alphabet or Facebook.
I question just how much in the way of truly new tech any of the social networking/internet media companies really develop. Most of what they develop is in the area of software apps, which isn’t really that specialized of a skill (and one that’s pretty fungible anyway, given the hiring practices in Silicon Valley).
I still think there would be great value to be realized from a break up of the internet media behemoths (Facebook, Alphabet and Amazon). Fragmenting the market would push the newer, smaller players to seek out niches (differentiation, in marketing-speak), so any time one company’s offerings became unpopular among a certain demographic, others would step in to exploit the opportunity.
The behavior these companies currently display is an arrogance typical to monopolies, who feel secure enough in their position to lord it over their ‘customers’.
