The lie on Heller was merely the most obvious, the piece was shot through with the distortions and outright falsehoods that the anti 2nd Amendment crowd are known for:
“At least 265 people were accidentally shot by kids last year, while the number of people murdered during home invasions in a given year is about 100.”
So a home invasion is only noteworthy when it results in a murder? No thought for the people raped, assaulted or terrorized? Not to mention that simply having your residence broken into is a very traumatizing event, hardly anything to minimize.
And as far as the ‘Unsecured guns pose a far greater threat’, even the CDC has been forced to concede that’s a lie (Slate, hardly a pro-gun source, had to admit as much in its litany of anti-gun agitprop: http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/human_nature/2013/06/handguns_suicides_mass_shootings_deaths_and_self_defense_findings_from_a.html)
Guns are used for self-defense often and effectively. “Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year … in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008… Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”
Considering this, is it any wonder gun-owners distrust nearly everything they hear from politicians like Hillary Clinton on the subject?
