I really like Sketch for vector drawing, no complaints there!

But I feel the industry needs new tools that go beyond this. Communicating software designs with the equivalent of pen and paper can only take us so far.

As you mention, the first CAD programs replaced hand-drawn plans. AutoCAD 1.0 was basically “just” a drafting tool. Modern CAD tools go way beyond that — you probably know Revit, for example.
