That’s perfectly fine — if there’s really nothing relevant to show in the UI while the data loads.

In the case of Uber, the primary UI contains a whole bunch of buttons and context that could be displayed even when location is not yet fixed. But if the app simply opened directly into its primary functionality, there wouldn’t be any place to display the new logo…

Imagine if Apple Maps or Messages displayed an animation each time you open them. Would you put up with that? Why should 3rd party apps be held to a lesser standard?
