Martin Shkreli — Good Guy or Bad Guy?

I am writing this based off the the same limited knowledge that most people tend to inform their opinions of others. I’ve read a few headlines about Martin, most negative, a few supporting, but most are negative. If you don’t know, he is the guy who drastically raised the price of a pharmaceutical for AIDS patients.

Yesterday, Martin was arrested on federal charges of fraud. He has since been released on bail.

More and more tweets are piling up against Martin. People hate this guy. That’s the general perception. But who really knows him? And how many people actually understand what he does every day?

Being arrested never looks good, and where there is smoke, there is typically a fire. But not always. The same people who automatically assume Martin is a villain seem to be the same group who accuse our police officers of being over-zealous and discriminatory.

The truth is, just because you are young black man who wears hoodies doesn’t mean you sell drugs and rape women. And, just because you are a rich white kid who runs a hedge fund doesn’t mean you are the next Bernie Madoff.

I could obviously be wrong about Martin. He could be a bad guy. But he might not. I don’t know enough. That’s the point. All I know is that he is a ‘guy’.
