Sandra Bland. Gone, But Never Forgotten.

Yesterday, I posted an Apple News post about Sandra Bland’s family settling for 1.9 million dollars in a wrongful death suit.

Within a matter of seconds, my post was shared over 80 times, and within minutes, my post was attacked by racists, sympathizers, and those, like me, who believed 1.9 million wasn’t nearly enough (no price point can bring her back) and believed, the officer who locked her up in the first place, needed to be put behind bars.

I will never forget Sandra Bland. I will never forget her story or how the cop who arrested her was fired for perjury by falsifying documents, caught on tape for violating her rights, and yet, he was never charged with accessory to her murder or responsible for unjustly asking her to get out of her car in the first place. None of it adds up. None of it makes sense, but, I believe, all things work together for good, to those that love God, and as a Black woman, I am far more conscious of the responsibility I have to keep her memory, to use my power, my platform and stage to ensure THIS stops. This woman has a soul that matters. Her life was bought with a high price and I am all to aware that it could have easily been me.

Some will argue that she gave the cop an attitude. My question to them is: Does having an attitude mean you deserve to be abused and assaulted? Or even killed?

We, as a community (all ethnicities), have an opportunity to make this nation better than it ever was. #StoptheHate. Forgive your enemies. #Racismsucks

Beauty and complexion are only skin deep. Be genuine and get get to know his or her soul. You aren’t that different as we all have the same basic needs: To be accepted, to be seen/heard (you aren’t invisible), & to be loved. God loves you. You will be better for it. #sayHerName
