In the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship, St. Paul College, Pasig hosted the 49th WNCAA Opening Ceremony with the theme “Play Bold With A Heart of Gold”, on September 1, 2018, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The event brought student athletes, coaches, and administrators together to uphold the value of sportsmanship and teamwork, showcase talent, and encourage healthy competition.
“Boldness in its true essence signifies tranquil, daring, and grit, coupled with a sense of respect and responsibility for events and people,” School Directress, Sr. Dedicacion Rosario, SPC, said. “[The theme] ‘Play Bold With A Heart of Gold’ echoes clearly the vision of WNCAA [which is] to produce women athletes who are successful and ethical, showcasing Filipino excellence.”
The program kicked off with a Parade of Athletes from the sixteen participating schools of WNCAA. The SPCP Pep Varsity presented dance segments and emphasized the character and nature of each team. The athletes marched into the stage amidst roaring applause and cheers. This was followed by an opening prayer which was lead by the SPCP Chorale and accompanied with a harmonious dance by the Terpsichore Jazz. Afterwards, the WNCAA Hymn was lead once again by the SPCP Chorale and a jubilant dance was performed by the Terpsichore Jazz and Terpsichore Street.
The program continued with inspirational and moving speeches from two student athletes: cheerleader Maegan Cabrera and basketball player Janine Pontejos. Both highlighted the importance of consistency, determination, and discipline in achieving an athlete’s goals. This was followed by the awarding of last year’s WNCAA with SPCP awarded as Overall 1st Runner Up for the Midgets Division as well as Junior Division.
The Oath of Sportsmanship was lead by Center for Sports President, Julianna Dela Cruz. The program ended with Sr. Dedicacion Rosario officially declaring the 49th Season of the WNCAA as open and a final dance performance by Terpsichore Jazz, Terpsichore Street, and the Pep Varsity.
