Day 20 — Jesus ישוע fulfilled the Prophecy of the Bronze Serpent -> whoever Believes in the One Judged on Behalf of Humanity will Live Forever

John 3:14–15

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him may have Eternal Life.

There is a peculiar event in the Tanakh תנ״ך (Old Testament) regarding how the God of Israel, YHWH יהוה‎ dealt with the Jewish People after they have been delivered out of Egypt — here are the verses that describe what happened:

Numbers 21:4–9

4 From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.” 6 Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.

To the person who is not aware of the wider context of this account, it will sound merely like the delusional beliefs of the ancient, pagan, pre-enlightenment mind — that which assumes the “fairy tale” of God, the supernatural, and divine intervention — when really, we “know better” now that it’s all explainable by “modern science” of curing snake bites; away with these “primitive and unsophisticated” ways of looking at existence. Additionally, this event is never again alluded to in the entire Old Testament, thus magnifying its dubious nature; undermining its acceptability of holding truth to the skeptical mind.

However, during the New Testament Era, this episode is explained by none other than the Messiah משיח, Jesus ישוע, Himself. He refers to this account as one that Prophesied, Foreshadowed and Symbolized His Mission of accomplishing the Eternal Evangelion εὐαγγέλιον.

Here is the list of the symbols that was fulfilled at this event.

1.) Snakes that bit the Israelites -> Symbolizes the True “𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦” that “𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘴” and kills Humanity — which is SIN

2.) A Bronze Serpent was set on a pole -> Jesus ישוע was “Judged” on our behalf (Levitical meaning of Bronze); He bore our Sin on the Cross (1 Peter 2:24) and was even made to 𝘉𝘌 𝘚𝘐𝘕 for Humanity (2 Cor 5:12)

3.) The Israelites that looked on the Serpent was cured of the “𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘮” and lived -> now the scale is broadened to 𝘈𝘓𝘓 𝘏𝘜𝘔𝘈𝘕𝘐𝘛𝘠 that whoever “looks” (Believes) on Him may also be cured of the True “𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘮” and live — but now Eternally

We thank the God of Israel YHWH יהוה‎ for sending the One who bore our Sin on the Cross, taking upon Himself the Judgement that Humanity rightly deserves, to cure us of the serpent venom that kills us (Sin) and live Eternally ~!
