The Constitution only provides for amendment conventions to propose amendments subject to ratification by 3/4 of the states, not constitutional conventions to replace the entire Constitution. Only amendment proposals with broad, bipartisan support have a chance of clearing such a high bar.
We urgently need a 28th amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United v. FEC decision and get the corrupting influence of big money out of our political system. With Congress stuck, an amendment convention is the only hope we have of proposing such an amendment.
Calling for an Article V convention to propose an amendment to overturn Citizens United would have no effect whatsoever on convention calls on any other topic. As long as we refuse to use the Article V amendment convention tool, the current oligarchy will continue to rule, and we will continue to suffer under government of, by and for corporations and billionaires — in other words, the best government money can buy.
