I think it would be worth your while looking at sign language and in particular such as SSE (Sign supported English)and it is worth looking at, say, the book by Kyle & Woll: Perspectives on British Sign Language and Deafness which has an appendix incorporating an (un-unique) use of a programming language.

Appendix 2 is also worth visiting as it addresses the teaching of language because there is a spectrum of ability unique to the dead community and indeed a variety of languages as intimated above (cf PGSS a particular SSE).

But to the point. I would recommend that you investigate video broadcasts, first those that are used, to support the deaf and then wonder if you might review your thesis that languages are “tools”. Since if you watch Programming Language Conferences too you will see that its all about community.
