The above comment I made elsewhere seems somewhat relevant. Kids don´t want to give hostages to fortune by providing data that can be misconstrued as information to build a point of view based on parental school experience perceived as eons since.

I have observed the parent-child school day dialog many times and I cannot provide advice beyond the above. Apart from a reluctant cautionary warning on the use of the self deprecating approach, I just feel that this may work with equals but am not sure it is a valid direction of travel for a parent/teenager relationship. Just saying.
