My SEO story Part 1

As a website designer I have become lazy over the years in regards to SEO, I would always ensure that the the basics correct before passing the website off to an SEO specialist. This working method has served me well but what would I do if I was totally working on my own?

One of my personal sites was not performing well in the search results, I wanted to find out why and see what I could do improve this. The site in question is paulnewbery.co.uk which is my professional Photography website which has recently been re-hosted and created .

Stage 1

Before tackling the main SEO issues, I checked the whole site for what is the low hanging fruit problems, these included 404 errors, duplicate content, missing meta descriptions.

Using Moz Pro, the website was scanned for errors. The below diagram shows there were a lot of things that required fixing. Mainly duplicate content and some 404 errors for broken image links.

A scan was also run using the excellent free utility by screaming frog this was used to fix all the low hanging fruit problems, In the below diagram I had concentrated on the responses codes all 404’s were eliminated.

Part 2 to follow; will include further testing and working on a successful keyword strategy.
