Our new Android app is absolutely essential to making UpdateZen the most complete — and simple — status reporting solution out there.

We launched UpdateZen to market on the eve of 2015, almost six months ago. We set out with one simple goal… to bring a sense of calm to the chaos of information overload, for executives and their team members. And we do this by completely re-imagining the way status reporting is done.
Companies and teams are drowning in emails, status spreadsheets, weekly status reports and shared documents. Too much information. Too much non-essential information. Too much noise. Not enough signal. That’s where UpdateZen comes in.
We designed UpdateZen on the principles of brevity, simplicity and minimalism. For team members, you can only update your boss in 250 characters or less. For team leads, you have the latest status of everything important your people are working on in one easy place… just one tap to acknowledge a team member’s update, swipe to the next update, tap to acknowledge, swipe to the next update, tap to acknowledge… well, you get it. Rinse and repeat… and smile because you’ve saved yourself boatloads of time, oodles of stress and best of all, you have your finger on the pulse of your projects, your team, and your company.
6 Months Since We Launched
Now almost six months since our launch, we’ve just passed 1000 users in our paid tier, with hundreds more entering our free trial each week.
We launched UpdateZen with an iPhone app and a web application. Our thinking was that more than 80% of executives have iPhones, so let’s build the iPhone app first. We were solving their problem. However, we quickly saw that over 70% of their team members were on Android phones. UpdateZen is most valuable to executives when team members are regularly updating the status of their projects in UpdateZen. Ipsofacto, we wanted to make it as easy and convenient as possible for team members to update the status of their projects. We set out to design and build the Android app. And today, we launch that app and make it available to everyone.
Now, wherever a team member is, and whether that team member is on iPhone or Android, they can very quickly tap out an update for their boss and move on with their work. The Android app really rounds out our solution, and gives us what I call the “whole product”. We’re one step closer to true product/market fit, and that feels really good for us and our users.
To be sure, feature requests keep rolling in. And yes, we’re getting more and more requests for a dedicated iPad app and Apple Watch app. But all good things come in due time. And this time, it is the UpdateZen Android app.
