The Who by Numbers:

Released in 1975, we had all been used to huge ‘story like’ albums by this Mega group at the time of this album’s release date. Yes, you know the ones such as ‘Tommy’ and ‘ Quadrophenia.’

Concept albums : they’re the ones that have their successive tracks collectively tell a story rather than one told by any of the individual tracks by themselves.

Excellent they were too, but in particular for me that album ‘Quadrophenia’ really hit the spot. I virtually wore that album out as I listened to it again and again and then some more for good measure!

Who can forget their epic ‘ Love Reign O’er Me!’ track? Certainly not me as it became engrained into my soul, let alone my mind with endless plays. Superb!

Quadrophenia as a concept album of course told a tale about a young disenfranchised Mod. It also mirrored a tale of the group’s Management background at that time, if not the actual members of the band.

For contrary to popular opinion their Mod leanings were a bit contrived shall we say. The Brighton Beach scene and all that of the early 1960’s had seemingly passed them by, just as it had for myself.
