Another body returns to the earth.

Black ashes to ashes,

brown dirt to dirt.

Another body returns to the earth.

What happens to a human life deferred?

Chained up still by poverty, or

trapped in prison cages worse?

Or does a heart explode with

a pistol shot, click bang dead,

as though absent of worth?

The heartstrings of mothers,

once thread to a noose,

now tied tight around

police trigger fingers,

loose.

White lies, florescent bright,

obscure death with nuclear light.
