Hello Robert, more often that not, design itself (not only UX) has a difficult task set out in front of them when they try to influence the product managers, marketing and sales teams. What works in the favour of the latter is that they are older organisations in these companies and hence hold higher leverage over some bunch of newbies trying to bring about some interesting insights and directions for everybody to brood over.

UX or design isn’t just a value or a philosophy or even a department. UX does not tell you that they know the user. They just allow you to focus on the user using a different lens other than the ones you are extremely used to. This is exactly where most of the interesting insights come forth.

In a world where a lot of companies have scripted success using a healthy mix of design, UX among other things and applied this cohesively across different departments and disciplines, I find your comment about UX not sharing that space quite out of sync with what will be a norm.

Yes, UX teams which work with all other departments & disciplines are not yet the norm everywhere but they will be and it is only a matter of time.

Thank you for the discussion.
